Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)

DEI within PHC

The LSU Panhellenic Council desires to build a community that reflects the diverse membership within each of our chapters. We hope to make our campus stronger through our commitment to promoting an inclusive community by supporting and advocating for women of all backgrounds throughout not only the recruitment process, but their entire time here at LSU. It is our goal that each individual woman is celebrated for her unique identity, perspective, and contributions to her organization and to our entire community. Panhellenic will continue to learn and explore ways to create the most diverse and inclusive environment where all members can feel safe and confident in being themselves.

A Letter from the Director of DEI:

Members and Potential New Members,

My name is Gabby Carter, and I am honored to serve as the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for LSU Panhellenic. My goal for this year is to foster inclusivity throughout the Panhellenic experience, from recruitment to graduation and beyond. To reach this goal, I am collaborating with an amazing Panhellenic DEI Cabinet composed of women from down the row. We will not only create diversity initiatives to be instituted presently but also devise a 10-year inclusion plan to stimulate lasting change in our community.

To this position, I bring my unique experience as a person with a disability. When I joined Greek Life, I was initially scared to tell anyone that I had a disability because I had never talked about it openly before. However, after opening up about my disability in my PHC community, I felt supported because everyone went above and beyond to ensure I had the resources I needed to thrive. I want to continue to make PHC more accessible to people with disabilities so that more people like me feel encouraged to join this community.

Additionally, I will make deliberate efforts to expand membership opportunities to all underrepresented groups. It is vital that members and potential new members of color, in the LGBTQ+ community, of lower socioeconomic status, with disabilities, of all religions, and from all backgrounds know that they can find a home in LSU Panhellenic. Through meaningful and precise action, we will make changes that promote inclusion in our community.

A well-known Panhellenic alumna once said, “We will all profit from a more diverse, inclusive society, understanding, accommodating, even celebrating our differences, while pulling together for the common good” (Ruth Bader Ginsburg, ΑΕΦ).

Please reach out if you have any questions about or actions you would like to see implemented for DEI in Panhellenic. I am looking forward to a great year!

With love,
Gabbie Carter
